Latin Jazz Corner and SOB’s nightclub in New York are joining forces and giving two loyal LJC readers free tickets to attend Eddie Palmieri’s performance next Thursday night, April 16th.This legendary Latin Jazz pianist will be making a rare nightclub appearance and you can bet that the intimate setting will only intensify his explosive musical personality. If you’re in the New York area, you can’t miss this show – and LJC is going to help ensure that you check it out.

1. He Puts On An Incredible Live Show
Palmieri never ceases to amaze me with the amount of energy, creativity, and passion that he puts into performance. He plays fearlessly, putting himself into every note and pounding out every syncopated rhythm. He takes risks and explores each corner of the music, always looking for a new angle. He inspires the best performances from his musicians, taking the whole experience to a new level. The last time I saw Palmieri in concert, he was performing in an open-air stadium with a less than ideal sound system. Forget about the details of sound and atmosphere, Palmieri and his group lit the place on fire with a massive performance. I imagine that he’ll do the same at SOB’s.

2. He’s A Esteemed Elder Of The Latin Jazz World
Closing your eyes and listening to Palmieri brings to mind the image of a vivacious young man passionately slamming away at the keyboard; in reality, Palmieri has 72 years of life behind him. He carries a world of experience with him and he can display the results of that background live. He’s a true master, and you need to show your respect for that status by checking him out. He’s also in the later half of his life; you’ve got to see him while you’ve got the chance.

Once again, Palmieri is a Latin Jazz master with over 50 years of performance behind him; he has a huge fan base that wants to see him live and for the most part, he performs in larger venues these days. Palmieri certainly knows how to make these venues explode with excitement during a performance, but most people would agree that there’s something magic about seeing a high caliber performer in a smaller setting. You get closer to the music, you can see the performers, and you simply become a deeper part of the performance. Put some headphones on and listen to Palmas at high volume – then close your eyes and imagine yourself right in front of the music . . . priceless.

4. Brian Lynch Will Be Playing With Him
Palmieri’s career has been filled with an illustrious group of sidemen – Manny Oquendo, Andy Gonzalez, Barry Rogers, and Robby Ameen to name a few; its a list that reflects the best of New York’s Latin music world, and Brian Lynch sits near the top. Palmieri’s music always included a jazz edge, but Lynch brings major jazz credentials into the group that include stints with Art Blakey, Horace Silver, and Phil Woods. In addition, Lynch is knee deep in the Latin music world – he carries a deep understanding of clave and Cuban styles. He doesn’t simply blow jazz lines over Latin rhythms; he integrates the rhythmic structures into his playing. His adventurous spirit matches Palmieri’s innovative edge; in many ways, Lynch serves as the perfect balance for Palmieri.
