Latin Jazz This Week
Latin Jazz This Week will bring you a weekly look into news from the Latin Jazz world. You’ll find new releases, recommended performances, web finds, and more. You can check out some current sounds in the Listening Center tab at the top of the page. Performance dates will be kept in the Live Latin Jazz tab at the top of the page.
Drummer and bandleader Bobby Sanabria was featured this week on NPR’s Weekend Edition with an insightful and educational piece on the West African roots of Latin Jazz. Sanabria goes beyond Latin Jazz and discusses the common West African heritage found in the work of many Latin American musicians, from Tito Puente to Santana and Desi Arnaz. NPR has interviewed Sanabria a few times, and he always has something interesting and informative to say – check out the whole article with audio clips HERE.
Pianist Michel Camilo was recently featured on Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz, giving him an opportunity to display his massive skills in both a solo and duet setting. This radio broadcast features Camilo playing a couple of original compositions, as well as jazz and Latin standards. It’s a pleasure to hear these two piano masters interacting with each other – you’ve got to check this out! Stream the broadcast HERE.
Congratulations to Chico O’Farrill and the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra for their Grammy Award in the Latin Jazz category for the album Song For Chico. Looks like the Grammys are finally starting to get the right idea, it’s great to see them giving the high honor to such an outstanding album! You can check out the complete list of award winners HERE.

The “Boys” Are Back In Town…
Remember the Four Brothers Beats blog? Well, the boys are back! BUT... not quite in the way you may have been expecting. It's, how shall we say, "the same, but different!"

Both of us, being musicians in our own right, began discussing our backgrounds and influences in making music, which invariably talking about how technology (past and present) played a role taking the music from inner to outer. I began to see the different paths ...
