Build-A-Playlist: Songs Titles With Single Female Names…
Working on an idea for a future RIBS playlist: songs with single female names (tentatively titled “I Wanna Know Your Name”).
Here’s what I have so far:
1. Joanna – Kool & The Gang
2. Mary Jane – Rick James
3. Roxanne – The Police
4. Angela – Bob James
5. Heather – Billy Cobham
6. Gloria – Enchantment
7. Angie – Rolling Stones
8. Lisa – Stanley Clarke
I know that there are a lot more. If you can, please help me out by adding the song (Title/Artist) in the comments.
Thanks!
ADDENDUM – 12/04/07…
Vivrant Thang heard my plea and dropped more than a handful of songs in the mixing bowl! You go girl! BTW, if you haven’t checked out her blog, Songs In The Key Of Life, please do. The lady is “deep”, writes well, and has a way of interweaving songs and lyrics into her topics that, well… makes me jealous! {smile}
I’m only going to take a subset of her suggestions to add to the list, though. I was originally thinking of limiting the list strictly to songs with only single female names, but that would have eliminated songs like “Sarah Smile” and “Proud Mary” (and I gots ta have “Proud Mary” by Ike and Tina on the list! {smile}). So, we’re expanding the definition of “single-female-name-song-titles ” slightly to include two word titles also.
OK. Here are the Vivrant Thang (luv *that* name, BTW!) additions to the list that we’ll be using (check the comments for her full list of songs; and while you’re there add some of your own! {smile})…
9. Charlene – Anthony Hamilton
10. Bernadette – The Four Tops
11. Brandy – The O’Jays
12. Sara Smile – Hall and Oates
13. Carol – Chuck Berry
14. Lucille – Little Richard
15. Proud Mary – Ike and Tina Turner
16. Lolita – Prince
17. Bambi – Prince
18. Annie Christian – Prince
Keep ‘em comin’!
ADDENDUM – 12/06/07…
Two more from Vivrant Thang (gotta be careful, I think she’s stalking me! {big smile}) and one from me:
19. Oh Sheila – Ready For The World
20. Darlin Nikki – Prince
21. Juaacklyn – Ramsey Lewis
Still looking for more!

Jeez, I’m such a dunce! How could I possibly forget one of the more famous (and a personal favorite) single-female-name songs:
“Billy-Jean” – Michael Jackson
Hope this helps!
Charlene by Anthony Hamilton
Bernadette by the Four Tops
The Wind Cries Mary – Jimi Hendrix
Brandy by the Ojays
Sara Smile – Hall and Oates
Carol by Chuck Berry
Beautiful Delilah by Chuck Berry
Who’s Holding Donna Now by Debarge
Georgia by Ray Charles
Lucille by Little Richard
Proud Mary by Ike and Tina
Sadie – um…R Kelly (it was about him Momma!)
My Cherie Amour by Stevie -may not count this one
Lolita – Prince
Bambi – Prince
Annie Christian – Prince
Hey, hey! Vivrant Thang comes through big time. “Thanks” lady for the additions (can’t believe I forgot about “Bernadette” by the Tops, I grew up on that ol’ Motown stuff!)
SO glad I can be of help. Can’t wait to hear the end result. It’s going to be hot!
I’m just discovering RIBS for some reason. I’m late! I’m going to enjoy digging in your crates
I had to come back because the first time I read this, I missed half of what you said! Thank you so much for your kind words about my site and my writing. It really means a lot since I’m blogging for just that reason – to improve it. Writing about music is the icing on the cake! Thanks for stopping by
I’m backkkk. Two more came to mind. I feel like I’m stalkin! Come on music lovers! I know we don’t have them all! LOL!
Ready For The World – Oh Sheila
Darlin Nikki – Prince (you have a lot of Prince already so maybe you want to swap or omit)
Hmmmm… never been “stalked” before! {smile}

All That Jazz: In Celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month
I don’t talk about my love for jazz enough on this blog so I figure jazz appreciation month is the perfect time to do so. I have to admit that my knowledge is lacking. Mama Vivrant Thang was never really into jazz so it wasn’t played much around the house. She did love Kenny G though and [...]
The “Boys” Are Back In Town…
Remember the Four Brothers Beats blog? Well, the boys are back! BUT... not quite in the way you may have been expecting. It's, how shall we say, "the same, but different!"

Fusion: Where Music, Technology, and Artist Creativity Intersect
Hello readers and listeners. I trust all is well today. This post is a follow-up to the previous post about the subject of an upcoming podcast I hope to resurrect entitled Fusion. The concept of this podcast came to me via an off the cuff discussion I had a few years ago with a fellow podcaster/recording artist/graphic designer. Both of us, being musicians in our own right, began discussing our backgrounds and influences in making music, which invariably talking about how technology (past and present) played a role taking the music from inner to outer. I began to see the different paths ...
