SoulTrackin’ – NetInfoWeb’s ‘SoulSites’ Aggregator Page…

Looking for soul music? Try the NetInfoWeb ‘SoulSites’ Aggregator Page! A ’single page aggregator’ listing 45 Soul, R&B and Jazz music sites for you to enjoy.

Over the weekend one of my new Twitter friends asked the following question…

“Anybody know of any good music sites?”

Now, that’s just the kind of question that this site, NetInfoWeb 2.0, was created to answer! After all, our byline *is* “Trackin’ the Sites, Trackin’ the SOUL!”

Ever since I revamped and refocused the site last year, it’s goal has been to seek and out and discover good websites and/or blogs that were talking about and promoting Soul, R&B, Jazz, Blues and Gospel music online. I try to point to my discoveries via these “SoulTrackin’” posts, in addition to keeping and maintaining a list of the sites I’ve found in the blogroll in the left sidebar.

One of the other things I have always wanted to do was to not only find and list good soul music websites (dubbed ‘SoulSites’), but also automatically list the titles of the headlines of new messages posted on these sites. The layout/functionality I wanted was similar to what you could find on the ’single page aggregators’ like POPURLS or Original Signal.

Fortunately, sometime over the summer I stumbled upon the Spotback website and their personalized news capability at News.Spotback.com. By using the NewsSnacks feature in this section I was able to create my own customized single-page aggregator for ‘SoulSites’ blogs that I had been thinking about.

In actuality, while the link to the NetInfoWeb ‘SoulSites’ Aggregator Page has been posted in the sidebar for sometime, I have never really promoted it much because I’ve been meaning to cleanup the list of sites it contained. Well, I finally got “A Round Tuit”, purged some sites, added some others and now the page is ready for its official unveiling.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

Here is the list of sites (in alphabetical order) that you’ll find on the NIW-SSAP:

BTW… a special “Thanks” goes out to seedoflife for asking the question and indirectly (and unknowingly {smile}) help me get that “round tuit”!

SoulTrackin’ – Podcast Mixes Meets Del.icio.us…

Just found this via the FiftyOne:FiftyOne blog – Blentwell

And, exactly what is Blentwell you ask?

  • Blentwell is an ongoing document of the evolution of blended music.
  • A daily link log of all of the hot mixes and beats found online.
  • Blentwell’s Links is based on the online linking system Scuttle which in turn is loosely based on the del.icio.us online linking system.

There are two link sections:
1.) Blentwell Links – excellent mix links editorialized by the mysterious Mr. Blentwell.
2.) The People’s Link – get in touch with the mix link zeitgeist through the posting power of the People.

TG’s Notes: this looks interesting and bears investigating. Anything that makes it easier to find good music mixes online is right up my alley. I’ll keep you posted on what I find.

SoulTrackin’ – Paul Phillips Launches CMEB4UGO, An E-Commerce Business

From the BlackPR.com and BlackNews.com newsletter…

New York, NY (BlackNews.com) – CMEB4UGO (’See-Me-Before-You-Go’) is an e-commerce retail handbag company, whose time has come”, says Harlem, NY entrepreneur Paul Phillips, as he opens for business and hangs its logo in cyberspace this week.

No stranger to the internet marketplace, Phillips wrote and launched a handbook for upstarts titled, Small Business Information Systems, and two African-American pictorial calendars, in 2004 and 2006, all with robust profits. Those earlier endeavors whet his appetite anew for the annual $200 billion U.S. e-commerce pie.

Equipped with updated research and a business plan, Phillips is at it again, casting a wider e-commerce net, with CMEB4UGO.COM targeting the fashion industry and the annual $7 billion U.S. handbag industry. Phillips has another project, which focuses on producing Brazilian jazz for the internet and webcasting live Brazilian concerts. The new CD is available at www.neworbita.com and www.amazon.com.

Phillips, whose previous professional credits include tv producer, engineer, and photographer, always loved to multi-task and stay ahead of the trend curve with his entrepreneurial adventures. He enthuses. “E-commerce appeals to me for a number of reasons. The major advantages are that you need less start up capital, you can reach more people, and it’s a new technology with some much potential.” He adds. “These points outweigh the downside of e-commerce culture such as ID fraud and the customer cannot touch and feel the product.”

Addressing the negatives, his CMEB4UGO website features crisp, what-you-see-is-what-you-get photography and simple, precise product descriptions. The CMEB4UGO inventories include handbags – purses, shoulder bags, totes- by cutting-edge American and European designers such as Latico, Tiziana, Carbotti. Glenda Gies and Liz Cox. The CMEB4UGO price points, from moderate to high-end, are competitive.

Global fashionistas and handbag shopaholics are encouraged to take advantage of the 10% CMEB4UGO introductory discount on all handbag items, for everyday use as well as the forthcoming Holiday Season. Visit the site. Orders can be placed online at www.cmeb4ugo.com or by calling CMEB4UGO headquarters at 866-415-1098.

Music News: Is That A ‘White Flag’ I See?

Warner Music Boss: We Were Wrong

From Edgar Bronfman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Warner Music Group, at the at the GSMA Mobile Asia Congress on Wednesday…

“We used to fool ourselves. We used to think our content was perfect just exactly as it was. We expected our business would remain blissfully unaffected even as the world of interactivity, constant connection and file sharing was exploding. And of course we were wrong. How were we wrong? By standing still or moving at a glacial pace, we inadvertently went to war with consumers by denying them what they wanted and could otherwise find and as a result of course, consumers won.

Ha! Man, where do I start as far as commenting on this one {smile}. OK, let’s be nice and just say that it is heartening to see a glimmer of enlightenment starting to shine through onto the music industry. Alright, now let me go soak my tongue. It’s starting to hurt from biting down on it so hard! {smile}

Music News: Gov’t Commissioned Study Finds P2P Downloaders Buy More Music…

From the “We’ve Been Trying To Tell You This All Along” Dept.:

The two key findings:
  • When assessing the P2P downloading population, there was “a strong positive relationship between P2P file sharing and CD purchasing.  That is, among Canadians actually engaged in it, P2P file sharing increases CD purchases.” The study estimates that one additional P2P download per month increases music purchasing by 0.44 CDs per year.
  • When viewed in the aggreggate (ie. the entire Canadian population), there is no direct relationship between P2P file sharing and CD purchases in Canada.  According to the study authors, “the analysis of the entire Canadian population does not uncover either a positive or negative relationship between the number of files downloaded from P2P networks and CDs purchased. That is, we find no direct evidence to suggest that the net effect of P2P file sharing on CD purchasing is either positive or negative for Canada as a whole.”

  • It’s in beta but man it has me hooked already. Snitter is a small desktop application that allows you to post to Twitter may be sleeper for 2007. I enjoy the feel of it, the look of it, how it alerts you when a twitter entry has been placed on twitter, it’s cool
for PC and Mac and I know the creators will build on it as time goes
on, so what are the downsides? It’s still in beta and you can send
files and add a webcam photo, but again…Snitter is still in beta.

SoulTrackin’ – Black Internet Marketing Forum Now Online…

Just found…

As I’ve mentioned on Black Business Space and earlier in this blog, I’ve committed to moderating a new internet marketing forum dedicated to the Black internet marketer called the Black Internet Marketing Forum. It’s now online (after some late-night tinkering over the last two days) and I intend to continue making improvements to the design while adding content and encouraging members to join.

It’s a free forum and I expect it to become the best of its kind. A subscription option is planned for much later once the membership numbers merit the option. Subscribers can expect to receive first shot at special members-only offers and programs that will take their businesses to the next level. For now, the free option will be one of the best values on the planet and your membership and contributions to our community of fellow marketers will pay serious dividends for networking, collaboration, and mutual progress.
