RIBS: All Funked Up, All Funked Out…

Whew! I need y’all to do me a favor. If I ever mention doing 5 mixes in 5 days again, please talk me out of it! {smile}
Seriously though, I hope you had a chance to stop by RIBS this weekend and check out the P-Funk Extravaganza mixes. Despite all of the work required to produce this many mixes in such a short period of time, I really had a blast going through the entire Parliament-Funkadelic family music catalog and pulling this all together.
Just In case you missed it (or some part of it), here are all five links to the mixes in one convenient spot:
- Make My Funk The P-Funk!, part 1; mostly Parliament
- Make My Funk The P-Funk!, part 2; mostly Funkadelic
- Make My Funk The P-Funk!, part 3; Parlet, Brides Of Funkenstein, Sweat Band, Horny Horns
- Make My Funk The P-Funk!, part 4; Ahhh… The Name Is “Bootsy”, Baby!
- Make My Funk The P-Funk!, part 5; George “Dr. Funkenstein” Clinton
Also, I discovered two excellent resources that stand out above all of the rest for information about the P-Funk empire:
- The Motherpage – Makin’ Your Funk The P-Funk
- PBS’ Independent Lens: Parliament-Funkadelic – One Nation Under A Groove
OK (puttin’ my sunglasses back on)… time to jump back on the Mothership and get the Funk outa here!

As the Godfather James Brown once told Bootsy “Make it funky!”
[...] OK, here we are finally. Man, it’s been a crazy 4 or 5 weeks around here during the month of September. So many things have been going on that we wanted to focus on and/or draw attention to (from a musical point of view of course). Our 5 mixes in 5 days P-Funk extravaganza for the Labor Day holiday weekend, the Jena 6 situation (which is far, far from over), and our special look at Gil Scott-Heron and whew, September just flew by! All That Jazz: In Celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month
I don’t talk about my love for jazz enough on this blog so I figure jazz appreciation month is the perfect time to do so. I have to admit that my knowledge is lacking. Mama Vivrant Thang was never really into jazz so it wasn’t played much around the house. She did love Kenny G though and [...]
The “Boys” Are Back In Town…
Remember the Four Brothers Beats blog? Well, the boys are back! BUT... not quite in the way you may have been expecting. It's, how shall we say, "the same, but different!"

Fusion: Where Music, Technology, and Artist Creativity Intersect
Hello readers and listeners. I trust all is well today. This post is a follow-up to the previous post about the subject of an upcoming podcast I hope to resurrect entitled Fusion. The concept of this podcast came to me via an off the cuff discussion I had a few years ago with a fellow podcaster/recording artist/graphic designer. Both of us, being musicians in our own right, began discussing our backgrounds and influences in making music, which invariably talking about how technology (past and present) played a role taking the music from inner to outer. I began to see the different paths ...
