I have to hand it to Ning – it took them well over a year after their initial beta launch to fulfill their promise of allowing “anyone” to create social applications, but they’ve done it. Ning relaunches tonight with new functionality and an interface that allows even the most novice of web users to create their own highly customized social network in moments.

Motown was the sound of Young America, and Stax/Volt arguably the sound of Black America, but for its era, Philadelphia International Records somehow managed to be both at once: sweet on top, funky on the bottom, socially aware and yet utopian, equally at home on AM radio or the dance floor. Read about the legendary duo Gamble and Huff and how their black-owned, black-operated enterprise rivaled even the great Motown in success back in those bell-bottom days. Contains history, label info, landmarks, artists, trivia, and more.
American Idol: “Book Your Plane Tickets Home”
Lakisha Jones, Wow! This girl just lit it up last night on American Idol! The best line of the night, by far, was when Simon said (after Lakisha’s performance): “I am very tempted to say to 23 people, `Book your plane tickets home.’” Read full article here…

‘The Event’: Valentine’s Day-Triple Play…
Filed under: General/Misc, Jazz, Music, Playlists, SoulSites, SoulTrackin', radio.blog
I must admit, I have been looking forward to today for several weeks. Today I am very happy to be a part of what we are calling the “Triple Play for Valentine’s Day”. Now, as many of you may know, we have an unofficial rule around here that, “Wednesdays belong to EJ!”, and we don’t normally post any new mixes that day of the week because EJFlavors’ newest Old School Wednesday (OSW) mix rules the day. However, with this being both Wednesday AND Valentine’s Day EJ has generously agreed to share his spotlight today. And thus the “3 Musketeers of Music”: EJ Flavors, GrantLove (aka SOULcrates) and myself, TGrundy (or as I like to think of us - ‘The Wizard of Wednesday’, ‘Dr. SOULcrates’ and ‘YFN [your, friendly, neighborhood] MusicMan’) have teamed up to present to you three mixes of musical melodies for your Valentine’s Day enjoyment.
Part 1:
We start off (of course) at THE spot where we kick off every Wednesday morning, EJFlavors.com:
OSW – Valentine’s Day, 2007
Part 2:
Serving as a sturdy bridge between the ‘Wednesday Wizard’ and myself, Grant ‘Dr. SOULcrates’ Love:
SOULcrates – Happy Valentines Day
Part 3:
Once you’ve filled yourself up with the two main courses above, why not top it off with a little dessert from the Rhythms In Black Satin kitchen:
RIBS – Valentine’s Day 2007
We all really wish your life is filled with Love today and that you enjoy the music. Please take a moment if you will to leave us comments and let us know if you like the “Triple Play” concept. If we get enough positive feedback, I’m sure the fellas would be willing to do this again sometime in the future.

What’s Cookin’, Good Looking?…
Aiiight now! STAY. OUT. OF. MY. KITCHEN! We got both doors to the pantries open, the burners on the stove goin’ full blast, one dish in the oven with two more waiting to go in, the recipes spread out all over the table and counters, and three cooks fightin’ over the two big wooden spoons!
We got to get all this stuff prepared and set out on the table by Wednesday morning. Go on now, shoo! And no, you can’t have a little taste just for now, it ain’t ready yet. It’s coming. On Wednesday. You just have to be a little more patient!

Barack’s ‘MySpace’…

Presidential candidate Barack Obama turned his site into a social network this weekend, hoping to create a venue for his supporters to connect. Obama is already leveraging social media using Facebook, MySpace and Flickr, but the addition of “My Barack Obama” seems smart: Obama is one brand that already has masses of offline support (like NASCAR or the Portland Trailblazers), and this will simply help to connect those people more effectively. Who or what is a Dangerous Negro?
A dangerousNegro is a Danger to America’s racial paradigm, a Danger to low expectations, a Danger to degenerate black mentalities, and is Dangerously contagious to the miseducated individual. Are you a dangerousNegro or soon to be endangered Negro?

Price, creativity, and style make our products second to none. By serving as a visual representation of the Black Empowerment Movement, our clothing line can help to inspire action and combat the apathy that has taken over many aspects of the Black community since the Civil Rights era.

Fusion: Where Music, Technology, and Artist Creativity Intersect
Hello readers and listeners. I trust all is well today. This post is a follow-up to the previous post about the subject of an upcoming podcast I hope to resurrect entitled Fusion. The concept of this podcast came to me via an off the cuff discussion I had a few years ago with a fellow podcaster/recording artist/graphic designer. Both of us, being musicians in our own right, began discussing our backgrounds and influences in making music, which invariably talking about how technology (past and present) played a role taking the music from inner to outer. I began to see the different paths ...
