We Remember Gerald Levert…
Recently updated on 11/15/06…
OK, saddened as I am by Gerald’s sudden passing, I have to admit that I am not as familiar with all of his music like many of you may be. I know some of his early songs like Casanova and Pop Goes My Mind, and his collaboration with his father Eddie on Baby Hold On to Me and a couple of others. Additionally, I have very little of his music in my personal collection.
So… as a celebration of his life and his music (and as a lesson in Levert-ology for me) I thought it would be a good idea to do a “build a playlist” here for Gerald’s music. I’ll contribute what (little) I can and I am asking the rest of you to help fill in the blanks and add to the list via the comments. I’ll update the list as contributions come in. Who knows, if we can come up with a good list maybe EJ might even consider using this as the basis for an upcoming OSW.
The Playlist: “We Remember Gerald Levert”
1. Casanova
2. Pop Goes My Mind
3. Baby Hold On To Me (w/Eddie Levert)
4. My Body (LSG)
5. Practice What You Preach (Barry White; written & produced by G. Levert)

I had the same idea then I realized that I don’t have all of Gerald’s solo albums. I know I had had a Levert playlist a long time ago, but can’t seem to find any of them or some of the tapes (wow, what’s that?) I made them on. Didn’t know you were adding produced by stuff too, that just opened it up more(I didn’t realize had composed as many as he did or had a hand in). Here’s what I can think of so far:
“Baby I’m Ready” - Levert
“My Forever Love” ”
“ABC-123″ ”
“Let’s go out tonight”
“The Good ol’ days”
“Start me up again”
Just to name a few. There are enough Levert songs for it’s own compilation, really. so….
“That’s what love is” - Miki Howard w/ Gerald Levert
“Just one them thangs” Keith Sweat w/ Gerald Levert”
“My side of the Bed” - LSG
“Mamacita” - Troop
“A Rose by any other name” Teena Marie w/ Gerald Levert
“Don’t Cry” - Men at Large
“Go Ahead and Cry” - The Rude Boys
“Put your body where your mouth is” - Sean Levert
Just some more that either was composed or guested by Gerald. Hadn’t gotten the solo ones, so that i’d have to came back to.

Hey, this is exactly what I was hoping for. As I have admitted I am “Levert-challanged” when it comes to an extensive knowledge of his work. These are all good choices (as far as I can tell {smile}) to add to the pool to create a final mix from. Although something tells me this is going to be a multi-CD affair since his work is so extensive.
Hopefully we’ll get some more folks to chime in. Remember, ths is a learning process for me so I will find comments that say “no” this or that should not be in the mix just as valuable as comments saying “yes” this should be in the mix.

Hey ms. alex! Thanks for the contribution. Added. Since I’m not familiar with this one, I know what I’ll be searching for and listening to when I get home.
